Hey Reader, Since I began sharing with you about The Gentle Change Collective, I’ve been receiving some really great questions. I’ve compiled a few of them here in case you've wondered similar things! Q: I’ve felt so overwhelmed by what’s happening in our country and abroad. I can’t help feeling like I need to do SOMETHING in my own small way. How can I identify what is mine to do in view of all that needs doing? This really resonates with me. I've found when we become aware of what's going on around us, whether by our own choice or not, it often is deeply overwhelming. And without time to pause and really understand how the events of today are interacting with our stories and inner narratives, we can end up feeling stuck. Our stories help filter our experiences and point us to our next steps – but when we don’t have the space to do that processing, we often never get there. That’s why The Gentle Change Collective is structured the way it is: our Story Cohort in February, our Practice Cohort in May, and our Solidarity Cohort in October. In February, we’ll work to get clear on what our stories are and how they interact with our life experiences and desires; in May, we’ll begin to build practices of resilience and presence to hold the charge of this moment as we move in our communities; in October, we’ll focus on action and finding what is ours to do in an ongoing, relational, and high-impact way. But we won't wait until October to start doing SOMETHING. This whole program is dedicated to making gentle change – that's why it's in the name 🙂 Q: This feels like a lot – is this just going to add to my overwhelm? Here's more on what that word "gentle" means to me: It means we stay flexible with ourselves and with each other; it means we center kindness in what we do; it means we engage in changework, even when it’s fierce, with a sense of unclenched experimentation and playfulness. There’s a lot in this program: three five-week cohorts, monthly workshops, an ongoing online community space. But all of it is being tailored for gentleness and to counter the experience of overwhelm so many of us are feeling. Here’s what this means in practice:
Everything about this offer is an invitation and I want to make sure you get what you need to take the steps you want to take – not just keep you busy or stuck in the overwhelm. Q: What is the cost to join? When I looked around at other cohort programs, I found myself a bit aghast – charging $500 for 6-8 weeks just feels like a lot. It doesn’t feel doable for most of the people I know. So instead, I’m offering membership in The Gentle Change Collective at a rate that feels sustainable and opens the possibility of me being able to keep it going for multiple years. Here are the two options I’ve come up with: If you have images turned off on your email provider, you can view the above image here. That said, I know this is still a lot for most of us, so I’m also including:
My hope is these options make this a choice folks can make with a bit more confidence 🙂 (And a reminder that since you’re on the waitlist, the price is only going to be $350 when I open signups early next month.) I hope these responses help answer some of the questions you might be sitting with. If you have a question about the program that’ll help you make a decision, please hit reply and let me know! Hey Reader, A quick request: as we come to the close of the year, I have a reader survey for you! It’ll only take a couple minutes and will help inform what The Wednesday 1-2-3 looks like going forward. 📝 Please complete this short 2024 Reader Survey (And in case it helps: there's a cute tardigrade gif at the end of the survey 😂) Last week I was talking with a friend about burnout – specifically “activist burnout.” He mentioned how folks who engage in activism often go full-speed ahead until...
Hey Reader, When was the last time you got stuck in a negative thought pattern or memory? For me, this happens most often when I’m out walking. I’ll meander through my neighborhood, intent on connecting with nature, but instead find myself lost in a memory or what feels like a tornado of unpleasant imaginings based on a past experience. These kinds of moments are referred to as intrusive or brooding ruminations. Image Credit: Sandstone Care Luckily, there are some pretty wonderful techniques...
Hey Reader, At the bottom of today’s email is a free 25-minute mini-workshop I recorded for you. It’s all about how we hold the charge of this moment – the heaviness, fear, unease, and discomfort of it all – in a gentle and intentional way. Just wanted to make sure you saw it 🙂 Alright – onward to today’s prompt: A couple weeks ago, I wrote that we are collectively living in the midst of a disillusioning moment. I defined this experience as: A moment when the illusion of “how the world works”...
